Aloha: I would like to hear from anyone stationed at Camp Lejuene in 1985,when military said they notified personnel on base about possible water issues. What statistics did they give for cacinigens were in the water? I sense they did a poor job of notifying former Mariens and their families about problems. I didn't find out until about a year ago of issues. semper FI

From BIGFISH: I just notified about the inacuracies on Marine Corps statement that they notified all Marines and their Families at CL about water issues in 1985. I suggess that all Marines or Their Families notify this site if they did not get notified. Semper Fi

I fully understand what all feel about the betrayal that all suffered at the hands of CL. I am not a USMC dependent, BUT my family was destoyed by the finger pointing of the US government while EPA sought someone to pin down for the "costs" incurred. Most who were in Jacksonville when EPA came to our 'town" know the business ABC Cleaners very well. My parents and father's brothers made a big sacrifice when EPA and Camp LeJeune needed money and culprits for the mass water contamination!! May God help all of HIS people effected by this horrible betrayal to all the American people effected by the "cover up". May my father, uncles and aunt, may they REST IN PEACE now that the real culprits are known, and my family can raise their heads again. Our true friends were the only ones who would NOT believe the horrible stories printed in our local papers during 1990-2010. God knows our family did not commit such a terrible crime...and revelation is a beautiful thing!!

BIGFISH,

I was stationed at Lejeune in April 1985 when the notifications were sent out to residents of Tarawa Terrace and when I received the letter I called base housing and they flat out lied about the VOC contamination. They said it was from naturally occurring decaying fish and vegetation in the water. They said it was absolutely safe to drink when they knew it wasn't. They never made any references to carcinogens or statistics ad that is what is so upsetting, they had us right there and they could have told us the truth.

I was at Courthouse Bay/CLNC Apr `84-Dec `86, and I do remember discussion about water contamination circa 1985. I'm not sure if it was from the married personnel living on base housing or if it was a formal warning from BNHQ.

I was a Navy Dental Officer statationed at Montfort Pt.,CLNC 1958-60 and lived in Tarawa Terrace housing. I also
returned several summers as Lt.Cdr. DC -USNR -60's-70's. What a jolt when I read Mike's article in American Legion
Magazine- Jan 2013 issue. Been in the VA system for years- heard "Zippo" about this.
I had aggresive Bladder Cancer circa 1998- had radical surgery by a Mayo Clinic trained surgeon who I sincerely
owe my life to. Also have Heart problems- heart valves, bypasses, stients,. No evidence of CA in previous two (2)
generations of family- most lived to 80-95yrs. I must have fell thru cracks- Nice to KNOW what made you sick and
changed your life-style- IRONY- son born CLNC-1958 ; Daughter married Marine- you guess it- stationed CLNC-
residence-Tarawa Terrace- right again- Grandson born CLNC 80's- 3 generations of exposure to TOXIC WATER-
Makes one feel real good about "Semper Fi and Fair Winds and Following Seas".

I believe the 3rd generation in my family is affected. One of my nephews was born with cleft pallet, one of my nieces born with respiratory and heart issues, open hear surgery right after birth, and about to have another one ( though my brother, her dad, never lived at CL), and my daughter was a preemie, with a hole in her heart, ended up forming a tunnel as it closed, and she had open heart at 4. I also had 2 miscarriages, and my sister who was born at CL 1970 also had a stillbirth son.

My father passed away at age 43 of heart attack. But now who really knows?

Our DNA and genes have been diluted by this poison.

I lived in Camp Lejuene twice during this period as my dad was a corpman w/ the Navy. He died from leukemia, by brother now has leukemia, and I get sick when I read about what was in that water. My little sister was born there in Tarawa Terrace, but she seems fine. My older sister has a disease no one knows how she could have gotten it, but maybe this explains that issue.

I just had a physical and have an abnormal ekg, not sure why yet.
