Anyone living in or near Beaufort County, South Carolina

Postby IslandPacketSgt » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:49 am

I am a journalist currently working on a story for The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette and am trying to find anyone who was effected, or had a loved one effected by the Camp Lejeune toxic water. As a former Marine and the 4th generation of military service in my family I feel this is an issue that needs continued coverage. As early as last year there was a man in Columbia, S.C. who found out that the cancer-related deaths in his family could be connected to their time growing up in the Lejeune area. There is a large number of military veterans and retirees in my area, along with two Marine Corps bases and feel that continued awareness about the Lejeune poisoning is important. I would appreciate anyone who would share their story with my publication, or forward my contact info to someone they know.

Thank you for your time.

I read the article you did on Lee Pflug. I was amazed that there was an interest in the Camp Lejeune Toxic water problem. I also live in Beaufort and work at the recruit depot on Parris Island. When this first came to light, back in the late 90's. I immediately started asking Marines and Sailors if they had ever been stationed at Camp LeJeune. There did not seem to be an alarm. I even went to my supervisior to enlist his aid, but again; I was given the brush off.

I lived @ Tarawa Terrace from 1979-1981 when the government knew about the water being tainted, and did nothing to inform us!

I live in fear, because I don't know if my migranes, my miscarriages, my grand son's club foot, my daughter's headaches, and the death of my 1st mother in law to cancer has anything to do with the poision that was in the water.

Anyway...I wish I had found this site earlier, because today is my first day on this site. I would have loved to have talked with you. Thank you for you interest in these veterans, Marines, civilians, and their familes who are affected by this situation.

Hello,

My family and I lived in Beaufort, South Carolina for many years, in the late 60's until mid. 70's. My father was stationed at Camp Lejeune I believe from 1965 thru 1967. My family included my 2 parents and 6 children. Both of my parents have since died in their 60's. My mother died from brain cancer, and my dad from lueukemia. My little brother who was 53 just recently passed away last monnth from melanoma. He had over a dozen brain tumors. My baby brother, the one who was born in Tawawa Terrace in 1967, at Camp Lejuene, was diagnosed with non hodgkins lymphomia in July of this years. He is on chemo presently. Cancer has taken nearly half of my large family. I truely believe it is a result from the contaminated drinking water. You can contact me at Pegbrzz1@yahoo.com if you would like to set up an interview. Thank you for your interest.
