Did you loose a babys 2yrs& under while at Lejeune

Postby Mary Blakely » Thu May 03, 2012 1:13 pm

I am trying to find members who lived or worked aboard Lejeune and had infants under two die while there? I am also looking for anybody who worked at the hospital and remembers anything about the Neonatal unit or the Labor and Delivery unit on Lejeune or Onslow Memorial.

My daughter was conceived at LeJeune, she lived 5 weeks.
I don't know anything about the hospital.

Thank You both for responding and I am so very sorry for your loss. I am looking into the infant deaths that might be related to the water and if not too painful could you share what the causes of their deaths were? I am asking because I have scanned and all the death certificates of Infants under two and have any noted connection to the base between the years of 1950-mid1966 & years 1978-79. I am going to scan all that I can find up through at least 1990. At the last CAP Meeting I gave The ATSDR a couple of my files that were years 1958 & 1960. I have them printed out and arranged by year. I do not know what if anything this might help, but I want to have these children recognized and the losses to their families acknowledged if not by those who refuse to tell the truth about what has happend then by all of us the victims.

My first daughter passed from multiple birth defects, she was missing bones in her neck and her intestines exploded, I believe they called it intestinal pnuemenitis(SP)?She lived 5 weeks in pain in 1981. The second one was in 1986 after leaving the Marine Corps. She lived 7 minutes and died of Anacephaly.

I am so sorry for the pain your little girls and you have had to endure. Although time has moved on,as a mother myself, I am sure your pain is compounded by the possible cause for all of your's and their suffering. My thoughts since visiting and learning about the Baby Cemetery in Jacksonville, located across the street from were now both of my Parents lay buried, are never far away from the youngest victims of this tragedy. If not too painful , could you share with all of us their names, I would like to pray for them and you as I am sure others among TFTPTF would also. While scanning Death Certificates at J-Ville's Register of Deeds I learned that many parents of Lejeune's Infant's were too filled with grief to name their babies, so if you didn't please do not feel bad. Although many of the children were not named, their loss was and is just as deeply felt by their parents and by me. They are part of our community and have a place here,as do all those who have suffered loss of life which "I believe" is due to Lejeune's toxic water. Thank you for sharing your pain with us," Semper Fi" is more than a recruiting tool here among the Brave and the Innocent, so I say it with all I was raised to believe it means to you and your family!

what I remember about the Labor and Delivery Unit at the New Naval Hospital in 1987 was it was very understaffed. I laid in the delivery room after delivery approximately 30 min alone because the 2 Dr's who were on duty were in other delivery rooms. Later realized 12 babies born same day as my child. Luckily I had no dealing with the Neonatal Unit, but when daughter # 2 was born, she was almost 3 weeks late and was in distress on delivery and went directly to nursery, I don't think it was Neonatal, to spend the nite. what I do remember is not being able to see daughter # 2 until the next day. I was one of the lucky people.
